  1. 'Children-in-Between' Programme Volunteers

    Divorce affects more than just the parents; children will have to face the challenge of coming to terms with their parents divorcing, with their emotions and with the arrangements made for their care among many other challenges they may face. Volunteers will assist in Care Corner Centre for Co-parenting ('CCP') groupwork sessions in Toa Payoh. They will play an important role in helping to make the sessions possible e.g. assisting with registration, preparation of materials and refreshments and child minding.

    1. CIB Children Programme
      3 x 2 hours sessions | Weekdays (Monday to Friday during School Holidays) | 1pm-3pm or 3.30pm-5.30pm

    2. CIB Parent Programme
      2 x 2 hours session | Mondays | 7pm-9pm

    • At least 18 years old
    • Working/volunteering experience in school or social service settings an advantage
    • Basic English and / or Chinese conversational skills
    • Outgoing and willing to interact with children and adults
    • Good listener
    • Experience in facilitation not required; training will be provided
    • Able to attend volunteers' orientation, trainings
    • Able to commit at least 6 months

Family Journey @ Care Corner

Volunteers can participate in 1 or more activities below.

  1. Buddy
    • Role: Befriending foreign spouses (FS) who are new to Singapore. By being a friend to them, you help them to connect them to local resources when necessary. Foreign spouses may also lack community resources needed to be integrated here such as understanding local transport and food. Thus you can guide FS to understand more about Singapore culture through your interaction with them. Requirements:
      • At least 25 years old and above.
      • Must be in Singapore for at least 3 years and understand Singapore well.
      • Friendly and willing to help others
      • Non judgemental and curious about people from other culture.
      • Outgoing and willing to participate in activities with couples
      • Able to attend volunteers' orientation & trainings
      • Minimum commitment: 1 year from the day of pairing.
      • Communication can be done through text messages, conversation over the phone, meals, drinks, etc.
      • To submit a brief monthly update of the couple to the agency.
      • Optional: Able to speak either of these additional languages would be helpful (Ie: Vietnamese, Korean, Japanese, Thai, Tagalog, PRC Mandarin, Bahasa Indonesia, Khmer, etc)

  2. Translators
    • Role: To do translation for foreign spouses who are attending English or Mandarin Marriage Programmes for either of the following languages:
      • Vietnamese
      • Tamil
      • Malay
      • Thai
      • Bahasa Indonesia

      • Marriage Programmes needed for Translation:
      • (a) Marriage Preparation Programme
        Location: Registry of Marriage (ROM)
        Time: 8.30am - 11.30am
        Course Frequency: Daily (Mon to Fri) on alternate weeks
        Volunteer to participate at least 1 - 2 a month or as when needed

        (b) Marriage Support Programme
        Location: Tampines
        Time: 8.30am - 5pm
        Course Frequency : 1 - 2 times a week on alternate weeks
        Volunteer to participate at least once a month or as when needed

  3. Assist in organizing Family Bonding Events (Ad Hoc)
    To assist in planning & organizing events to our outing for families (could be indoor or outdoor)

  1. Early Learning Programme
    • Work with partner mentor in weekly lesson planning, based on child's developmental needs
    • Familiarise with and execute lesson exercise provided by education therapist
    • Interact with children during activities and to assess and record their development
    • Timing: Saturday, 9.30am – 12.30pm
    • Volunteer Requirements:
      • At least 17 years old (experience in working with children preferred)

  1. Children Programme: KidsLight Mentoring Programme
    • To tutor (Math / English), befriend and mentor primary 4 to 6 children from needy families on a once a week 3 hrs per session
    • Timing -- Volunteers are to commit to one weekday evening per week, 7 - 10pm (actual day to be confirmed by staff)
    • Volunteers at least 17 years old and able to commit on a weekly basis during the primary school school term

  2. Children Holiday Programme (Ad Hoc)
    • To organise and facilitate children activity during the school holidays (could be indoor or outdoor)
    • Volunteers at least 17 years old preferred in small group.

Befrienders:
  • Be a friend to our clients! – provide emotional support by being a listening ear.
  • Accompany clients on errands – medical appointments for those with mobility issues
  • Go on routine home visits – to check in on clients and connect with them
  • Taking them out for a day of Fun! – one day excursions with clients and their families
  • Volunteers to be able to commit for at least 6 months.
Tutors:
  • Confident in tutoring primary or secondary school children.
  • Be an exemplary model to our kids and motivate them to do their best in school.
  • Inspire them to achieve their potential and beyond!
  • Each tutor will be attached to 1-4 children depending on the demand.
  • Tuition falls on every Tuesday / Thursday from 6-8pm.
  • Looking for at least 3 months or more commitment.
  • Volunteers are to be able to commit on a regular basis for at least 3 months.

      • Role - Provide tuition support, helping to plan, facilitate as well as co-lead group activity to aid positive development to develop character champions.

      • At least 6 months, 20 hours per month
    • Youth Rangers Mentoring
      • Role - co-lead small group activities, discussions and impart life skills to train up community leaders.

    • Interest groups
      • Role - support in delivery of training sessions and provide socio-emotional support to members.

    • Role – roam around the community to build relationships with community children and youths to link them to developmental opportunities and resources.

  5. Group Works Facilitators
    • Role - to support delivery of school social work groupwork sessions.
    • 4 times a year in Mar, June, Sep, Dec
    • At least 1 run, 30 hours

  6. Child Minders & Programme Support Volunteers
    • Child minders – to help manage children (7 – 12 y.o.) during parenting talks.
      • Bi-monthly, Weekdays 6 – 9pm or Weekends, 9am – 12noon

    • Program support – assist in delivery of family bonding activities.

    • Scope: Build positive relationships with youths (13 – 17 years old) to provide support and encouragement.

    • Volunteer Requirements:
      • Aged 18 years old and above
      • Able to commit at least 6 months, for 12 hours per month

  2. Mentors/Facilitators
    • Scope: Co-lead small group activities, discussions and impart life skills to train up community leaders.
    • Timing: Fridays, 3pm – 5pm, Ad-hoc Saturdays
    • Volunteer Requirements:
      • Aged 18 years old and above
      • Able to commit at least 6 months, for 8 hours per month

  3. Street Outreach
    • Scope: Support staff in engaging youths on the streets and linking them to developmental opportunities and resources.
    • Timing: Weekday afternoons and evenings (Timing can vary between 3pm to 8pm)
    • Volunteer Requirements:
      • At least 6 months, 4-8 hours per month

  4. Graphics Designer
    • Scope: Video editing and publicity material design (e.g. posters) specifically targeted at attracting youth
    • Timing: Ad-hoc, project-based

  5. Ad-hoc Volunteer
    • Able to volunteer your skills on an ad-hoc basis for events, such as photography/videography, balloon sculpting, organizing events, drivers, ushering, etc.
