Care Corner Project StART* provides specialist family violence intervention work in the west and south region of Singapore. We are a team of social service professionals reaching out to the community affected by family violence, engaging community resources and enhancing relationships. Service Boundaries
Region: West and South, North-West, South-West Chinatown, Telok Blangah, Tanjong Pagar, Bukit Merah, Tiong Bahru, Alexandra, Queenstown, Commonwealth, Tanglin Halt, Holland, Ghim Moh, Clementi, Bukit Batok, Jurong, Boon Lay, Upper Bukit Timah, South Bridge, Chin Swee, Meiling, Outram, Dover, Pasir Panjang, Choa Chu Kang, Taman Jurong, West Coast, Sentosa, Lim Chu Kang. (Service boundaries are indicative and serve as a guide . Project StART receives cases which are located islandwide)
Services
Counselling
Counselling services are provided for individuals and families who are affected by family violence. Family violence occurs when a family member does any of the following to you, your child or any other family member:
- Causes hurt wilfully or knowingly
- Wilfully places or attempts to place one in fear or hurt
- Wrongfully confines or restrains a family member against one’s will
- Continuously harasses with an intention to cause or knowing that it will cause a family member anguish.
Counselling services are also provided for elderly who are affected by abuse. Elder Abuse occurs when someone in a position of trust harms the health or well being of an elderly person.
Case Management
Individuals and families are linked to services in the community, and environmental resources are mobilized in an integrated care plan for families and individuals affected by violence. We work closely with key partners and stakeholders like the police, prisons, crisis shelters, medical services, family and community course and VWOs in a many helping hands approach.
Personal Protection Order (PPO) Application
A PPO is a court order that requires the abuser to stop family violence. You can apply for a personal protection order via video link facilities at Care Corner Project StART. If you are below 21 years old, your relative, guardian or any person responsible for your care or a social worker can apply for a PPO on your behalf. To apply, bring your NRIC or birth certificate, and police and medical report if any.
Our video conferencing services are available on Wednesdays & Fridays (except public holidays) 9.30am—1.00pm. Last Appointment is at 11.00am.
Protecting Individuals who Lacks Mental Capactiy
Individuals who are unable to make decisions for themselves because they lack mental capacity are a vulnerable group in society. They may not even be aware that they are being ill-treated. The mental capacity act has created a new criminal offence of ill-treatment that covers physical, sexual and emotional abuse. Help is available at Care Corner Project StART for individuals who lack mental capacity.
Public Education
Care Corner Project StART organises outreach and public education events on family violence. The public education events aim to create greater awareness in the community about the issues of family violence. These events are held together with key partners such as MCYS, the police and community partners.
