HELP A NEEDY CHILD – TODAY!

Help a Child (HAC) is a financial scheme initiated by Care Corner Family Service Centre (Queenstown) where an individual donor donates an amount, on a monthly basis to a financially needy schooling child matched to him to receive his donation. This form of assistance is intended to help the child complete school without the fear of having to drop-out due to financial constraints faced by the family.

The scheme was started in the hope that children from low-income families can have a more equal standing to being able to complete their education. Children in this scheme may be unable to qualify for the School Pocket Money Fund as they could have just fallen outside the set criteria, but nonetheless are still experiencing financial difficulties at home.

Started in January 2008, the scheme has already seen 21 children successfully matched to their donors. Donors receive reports on the children’s progress and family conditions, and an annual get-together is organised for all parties to meet up.

Pay It Forward … Learning to help others

Ultimately, the goal of HAC is to inculcate in these benefiting children the value of paying it forward to the other needy people in society once they become financially independent themselves. That is, after they have entered the workforce, and their home financial situations have improved.

Potential Donors

Donations are made on a monthly, quarterly, half yearly or yearly basis, for a minimum of period 1 year. Amounts range from $70 to 150 per month from primary to tertiary level students. All donations are eligible for double tax-exemption.
